Symposium Honoring Keiji Morokuma

The CREST International Symposium on Theory and Simulations of Complex Molecular Systems and the International Symposium on Theory of Molecular Structure, Function and Reactivity, Celebrating Prof. Morokuma’s 75th Birthday will be held jointly from Sunday, July 19, 2009 to Tuesday, July 21, 2009 at the Fukui Institute for Fundamental Chemistry (FIFC), Kyoto University, Kyoto, Japan.

A CREST (Core Research for Evolutional Science and Technology) grant in the Area of High Performance Computing for Multi-scale and Multi-physics Phenomena from the Japan Science and Technology Agency has been supporting the research of PI Prof. Morokuma and his co-PI’s on complex molecular systems. The International Symposium on Theory and Simulations of Complex Molecular Systems is part of this project. It focuses in particular on the electronic structure and formation mechanism of carbon nano structures and the mechanisms of biomolecular reactions.

The International Symposium on Theory of Molecular Structure, Function and Reactivity (ISTMSFR) is dedicated to the celebration of the 75th Birthday of Prof. Keiji Morokuma, Research Leader at the Fukui Institute for Fundamental Chemistry. Its scope is broadly defined to encompass all areas of electronic and molecular structure elucidation relating to the research performed by Prof. Morokuma over the more than 50 past years.

Conference Program

The conferences consist of plenary lectures presented in 6 sessions and a poster session. CREST lecture sessions will be held on Sunday (7/19) and Tuesday (7/21), while the ISTMSFR symposium lectures will be held on Monday (7/20) and on Tuesday (7/21). The poster session will be on Monday (7/20), and we will award the best poster prize for students and postdocs. A welcome reception will be held Sunday (7/19) evening at the FIFC, and a birthday celebration party and banquet will be given on Monday (7/20) evening at the Holiday Inn Hotel near FIFC.
